Laminate is the right choice when you want the look of wood at a lower price point and with less commitment than LVT or solid timber. The modern AC4 and AC5 ranges from Quick-Step, Egger, and Pergo are convincingly wood-like, scratch resistant, and quick to install — making them a popular pick for landlords, lettings, and family homes that need the floor to take a beating.
AC ratings explained
The AC rating tells you how much wear the surface can take. AC3 is for light domestic use only. AC4 is right for most family homes, including hallways. AC5 is rated for commercial settings and is the right pick if you want the floor to outlast the dog. We will not fit anything below AC4 in a domestic setting — the budget gain is not worth the early replacement.
Where laminate works and where it does not
Laminate is great for lounges, dining rooms, bedrooms, and home offices. It is not waterproof — so we steer customers towards LVT or sheet vinyl for kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms, even though “water resistant” laminates exist.
