FAQ

Common questions about quotes, fitting, products and aftercare. If yours isn't here, send us a message and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We come out, measure the rooms you want done, talk through what flooring suits the use, and send a written quote. There is no charge and you are not committed to anything by asking.

How quickly can you start?

Usually within one to three weeks of accepting the quote, depending on which products are in stock with our suppliers. Stair carpets and single-room jobs can sometimes be slotted in sooner. Larger commercial fits we plan around your access window.

Do you take up the old flooring?

Yes. The quote includes lifting and disposing of the old carpet or vinyl, and we sweep and hoover the floor before laying down new underlay or LVT. If there is furniture to shift, we will move it as part of the day’s work. We just ask that the room is cleared of breakables and small items before we arrive.

Do I need to be home while you fit?

Not for the whole day, but someone needs to let us in and look at the finished room with us before we leave. For tenanted properties we are happy to coordinate with the agent or with the tenant directly.

Will a new carpet smell?

A new carpet has a bit of a smell for the first day or two. It fades quickly if you open a window. The smell comes from the latex backing and is harmless.

What about underlay?

Most of our carpet quotes include underlay and we will specify which one. Cloud 9 and Tredaire are the two we fit most often for domestic work. If you have existing underlay in good condition we can reuse it, but in practice this is rare. Once a carpet has been lifted, the underlay usually goes with it.

How do I look after a new carpet?

Vacuum it weekly. Spot-clean spills with cold water and a clean cloth, not bleach or strong detergents. For wool carpets, get a professional steam clean every couple of years. Keep heavy furniture on cups to avoid permanent dents.

How long does LVT last?

A residential LVT install in a normal household will last fifteen to twenty years before it looks tired. In a hallway or kitchen with a lot of foot traffic, that comes down a bit. The plank itself usually outlasts the room’s decor.

Do you fit safety flooring for commercial sites?

Yes. We fit R10 and R11 rated sheet vinyl with welded seams and cap-and-cove where the specification calls for it. We have done schools, nurseries, healthcare reception areas and back-of-house kitchen floors. Send us the specification and we will quote.

Do you handle subfloor problems?

Most of the time, yes. Latex screed for uneven concrete, ply overlay for boarded floors that move, moisture testing if the screed feels damp. If a subfloor needs structural work we will be straight with you and say it needs a builder first.

What payment do you accept?

Bank transfer or cash on completion. Deposit on order for special-order products like Karndean or wool carpets that have to be cut to size. We always agree the terms in writing before any work starts.

What if something goes wrong after fitting?

Manufacturer warranties cover the product. Our workmanship is covered for twelve months from the day we fit. If a seam lifts or a stair edge frays in normal use, call us and we will come back and put it right. Outside of that, we charge a fair call-out for repairs.
